Nuvera Fiber Internet Expansion

Select an option for yard restoration. Thank you!

Fiber construction projects happen in five main steps.  They are typically in the following order but sometimes order may vary slightly.

  1. Mainline construction.  This is placing the main fiber line in either the public right-of-of ways or alleys.
  2. Cable pulling.  Fiber is pulled through the main line that was placed.
  3. Mainline splicing and testing.  Fiber optic splicing is the process of joining two separate fiber optic cables together. It is then tested for its strength.
  4. Drops to home.  Facilities or “drops” are buried from the mainline to the customer’s home.  This includes placing the fiber which will also be spliced and tested.
  5. Installation and customer connection.  Once a neighborhood is fiber-ready, current customers and new customers that signed up for service will be contacted about the installation their new fiber internet service.

Drops to customer homes are in progress.  Current and new customers are contacted by mailers or door tags directly at your home before we start digging.   The Nuvera team places the fiber optic cable from the pedestal up to the Network Interface Device, or NID, attached to the outside of your home. The crew then installs what’s known as a Fiber Optic Network Terminal, or O N T, inside your home. This is the heart of your new fiber internet connection, linking directly to the fiber in the NID outside.

Splicing and testing fiber are also in progress.  You may see a Nuvera splicing trailer in your neighborhood. Our team will fuse the individual fibers that will eventually connect to your home or business. Then we test the speed of light as it passes through the fiber to make sure your connection is GIG-fast.

The estimated completion dates for this area is July-September, but may vary due to circumstances out of Nuvera’s control.
