Nuvera Reaches Major Milestone with 50,000 Fiber Passings

Reliable fiber equips customers to harness the opportunities of AI today

New Ulm, MN (Nov. 13, 2025) – Nuvera, a leading fiber broadband provider, today announced it has achieved a significant milestone by reaching 50,000 fiber passings across its service territory. This achievement represents the number of homes and businesses now located along Nuvera’s expanding fiber network, marking substantial progress in the company’s multi-year infrastructure investment.

The company began its Nuvera Gig Cities project in 2021, pledging $200+ million investment in fiber-to-the-home internet service, delivering industry gold standard speeds and reliability. To date, Nuvera has completed more than 75% of its initial project construction. Over 65% of the company’s residential and business customers are now connected to the fiber network.

“High-speed fiber is more than just faster internet — it’s an essential tool for education, health care, remote work, and business growth. This investment ensures our communities remain vibrant and competitive well into the future,” said Glenn Zerbe, Nuvera President and CEO. “Artificial intelligence has reshaped industries, education, and daily life. Nuvera’s fiber network meets the demand for bandwidth and reliability right now and for the future of AI growth like no other technology available.”

The ambitious infrastructure project has systematically connected thousands of residential and business customers to fiber internet across dozens of neighborhoods. The initial build-out focused on legacy communities including New Ulm, Prior Lake, Hutchinson, Glencoe, Goodhue, Litchfield, Redwood Falls, Elko New Market, Savage, Sleepy Eye, Springfield and Aurelia, Iowa.

“Access to reliable, high-speed fiber internet strengthens our city’s infrastructure, supports innovation, and helps ensure Prior Lake remains an attractive place to live, work, and grow,” said Prior Lake City Manager Jason Wedel.

Nuvera has since expanded its network through strategic extension projects to the new communities of Howard Lake, Waverly, Dassel, Cokato, Belle Plaine, Shakopee, Arlington, Hector, Olivia and additional areas of Savage. This expansion demonstrates the company’s commitment to bringing advanced broadband infrastructure to underserved markets.

Fiber internet technology represents the industry’s most advanced solution for high-speed connectivity, offering superior performance compared to 5G technology. The technology provides symmetrical upload and download speeds, enhanced reliability, and the capacity to support emerging applications that require robust bandwidth.
